Yes & no: Looking for bronchodilation... Then long standing is not the answer. Get an inhaled steroid to decreased the inflammation then the bronchospasm will be easier to relieved. There are new meds on the market to help. Visit your specialist.

Potency vs right one: Rescue inhalers (ventolin/proair/proventil) and xopenex (levalbuterol) are about same in term of potency. Excessive use will lead to decrease efficacy. If you use any of these inhalers more than 2-3x/wk, your asthma is not under control and needs additional treatment. Inhaler steroids are best. Long-acting beta-agonist can be combined with steroid if needed. Singulair is additional option. Consult doc. Good luck.
