Believe problem is loose pelvic joints (sacroiliac, sij, and symphysis pubis) due to an hormone, relaxin, secreted during pregnancy; loosening ligaments enabling wider birth canal. An sij belt has helped some, as reported by dr. Andry vleeming, who chaired european criteria for diagnosis & care of low back & pelvic pain.

Back pain: And hip pain is common in pregnancy but shouldn't be severe. In general women can use tylenol (acetaminophen) or heat or ice. Some women benefit from physical therapy. She should check with her doctor.
