My wife is 27 weeks pregnant and she is having severe pain in lower back/hip while getting up from lying position. also she sometimes gets cramps..

Sounds musculokeleta: While occasionaly low back pain can be from preterm labor, it is most commonly due to loosening of the ligaments due to the hormone effects of the pregnancy. The fact that it hurts when she is getting up suggests that it is due to muscle strain or bony problem that doesn't put the baby (or your wife at risk). The cramping sounds more like it may be some minor ctx's, if they are transient= not bad.
