A member asked:

Can nembutal cause a positive eeg in a teenager who was talking the pills for sleepinf one pos eeg one neg. dr said pill caused seizure. he was taking?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Nembutal: Yes. Nembutal contains a barbiturate and although these have been used for decades to treat seizure disorders, they can cause eeg changes and even evoke a seizure. It is best to switch to a non- barbiturate formulation, like dalmane (flurazepam). Having said that, the use of potentially addicting sleep medications in a child is problematic, and you may want to discuss alternatives, such as anti histamines.
