Immobilize, crutches: Some ankle fractures simply need to properly immobilized (walking boot or cast) and some also require a period of limited or non-weight bearing with the use of crutches or a walker. The first 2 weeks are often the most important. If an ankle fracture is potentially unstable and prone to displacing, then it often does so in the first 2 weeks.
