Risk: Benefit: This is a discussion to have with your own psychiatrist, weighing the risks and benefits of each option. Citalopram has an fda pregnancy "c" rating, meaning animal reproduction studies have shown some adverse effect on fetuses & there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans. But potential benefits may still warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

Yes: It makes little sense to lower your citalopram dose if it helps you stay out of depressed mood. A recent review of women taking antidepressants before and during pregnancy revealed very little risk to the fetus. If you want to conceive, it's more likely to happen when you're not depressed, right? Once you are pregnant... Then, you have the "pro v. Con" discussion with your doctor!
