Opinions on citalopram and pregnancy please? every doctor that replies says something different. others say its fine others are wary of it..confused

It depends: Citalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (ssri). It is considered a pregnancy category c drug, which means we really aren't sure if it is harmful, but it is possible that it is not. Most people agree that it is not a teratogen (does not cause birth defects) but the concern is that the infant will withdraw from it just as you would if you stop it without a taper.
