?: There seems to be major lawsuits against the maker of Celexa on-going (stating that citalopram use is associated with autism). Frankly, I am not sure how strong the causal link is (if any). I will be interested to see the studies behind this.

One small study in: California showed a modest increase in autism in children of women who took ssri's (celexa, prozac, zoloft, (sertraline) etc.), but couldn't confirm if the increase was related to maternal depression/anxiety or to the ssri's. The deleterious effects of maternal depression & anxiety during pregnancy & early infancy on a child's development are well known. Benefits & risks must be considered for each patient.

Yes,sir, & a mom's being emotionally unavailable has been proven to delay an infant's or child's cognitive & social development.

In other words, if parents with depression or anxiety are behaving abnormally around their child, or toward their child, then the child can develop psychological symptoms by being in such an environment. Life is about balancing the risks of treatment vs. the risks of not treating.
