Osgood Schlatter: Osgood-schlatter is a condition involving a portion of the tibial growth plate at the insertion of the patellar tendon. It is associated with tight quadriceps (especially the rectus femoris). There can be a painful fragmentation that occurs at this area. The best treatment is stretching, nsaids and rice. It resolves when the growth plates close (usually around 14 for girls and 16 for boys).

Until growth stops: The lower leg attachment for the strong leg muscles floats on a spongy growth plate in front of the knee. The to/fro pull at this point triggers the soft painful area of OSD. When that growth plate closes at the end of linear growth, the area turns to solid bone & the pull no longer triggers irritation. If it has not subsided yet it should soon.
