R.I.C.E: Rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Also taking some tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin. Unless you had a major trauma it is unlikely you have sustained any serious damage to your knee. As it begins to feel better work on doing straight leg raises. These can be performed by raising your leg straight up in the air while seated raise it about 10 inches off the floor.

Why can't you go?: If you are having severe pain with weight bearing, or bending, you may have a significant knee problem. Possibilities include meniscal tears, loose bodies, and cartilage tear. Assuming you can take otc nsaids, and tried ice and rest, you should be seen by a physician.
