Yes - talk is good: The real answer is "it depends". Perhaps all your friend needs is your company, shoulder & ear to share concerns. Unfortunately, it's tricky finding right ssri for each individual. Worse, ssris don't work for everyone. Even so, they shouldn't be dismissed out of hand but preferably used in conjunction w/professional counseling. But in the end, you can never have too many friends.

U R a good friend: Ssris don't do a thing for aspergers, but they can help depression for such folks just like anybody else. The big question is whether he is down 'clinically' or down because of social problems caused by his aspergers. If it's the latter, your talk with probably do more than any pill.
