Unlikely : Menopause doesn't cause pain. Commonly, periods become irregular and less frequent, and women often start to develop hot flashes. Pain and frequent bleeding can sometimes be due to a fibroid and (although less likely in a 40 year old) endometriosis. If it doesn't resolve, see your gyn.
