I am 44. a missed period led me into a gyn office who performed an transvaginal u/s showing 5 follicles in left and 1 follicle in right ovary. dr said menopause. but some friends are saying 5 follicles in 1 ovary is avg for a 44 yo. what to think?

At "44", even with follicles present on a "TV ultrasound", the chances for pregnancy are very reduced secondary to aging eggs and other factors. Obtain a serum FSH level , and if it is over 10, pregnancy is extremely unlikely.
