Not hard to tell: Pityriasis rosea and impetigo are alike only in that both are on the skin. Any medical doctor should be able to easily tell the difference. Impetigo oozes or blisters and often forms a honey colored crust over the sores. Pityriasis begins with a painless patch of rash that spreads quickly to tiny dots all over, frequently showing a "christmas tree" like pattern on the back.
