A member asked:

My mother has chf. she doesn't believe it is a result of hrt. i am now on hrt. am i likely to have heart problems because she does?

Many causes: There are many causes of heart failure. They include aortic valve disease, mitral valve disease, blocked heart arteries, high blood pressure, and some types of infections. Hrt in some studies show increased risk of blockages but this not consistent. There are also many risk factors for blockages too (smoking, diet, obesity, etc). I would discuss your concerns with your doctor.

Chf: CHF is the result of specific abnormalities. Some could be related to hrt, many probably aren't. Best to find out more about her CHF if you desire to learn if a familial problem is present.
