Lost and Hungry: The basic answer is that one does not survive well without food and water. But, as long as there is some hydration a person can survive very well for several days. But, without hydration one can not live very long in the wilderness. The science is that the body works to protect its metabolism and has mechanisms to lower the body temp and the need for sustenance for a short time.
