A member asked:

Is a freckle in the eye caused by sun exposure? and will it ever go away?

Probably not: A freckle in the eye can either be a nevus (commonly known as a mole) mis-named as a freckle, or an area of increased but otherwise normal pigmentation (a true freckle). While skin freckles are related to sun exposure, freckles and nevi of the iris or retina are probably not related to sun exposure. They usually do not go away on their own, but they also almost never lead to complications.

No: If you are referring to pigmentation on the white part of the eye, this is normal, unless it is changing. If you are referring to a "freckle" inside the eye, likely it is a nevis. This should be evaluated an followed by an ophthalmologist
