Pterygium: You may have a pterygium or a pinguecula which are benign growths on the sclera or white part of your eye. See an ophthalmologist to be sure. Artificial tear drops may help with the redness.

Scar tissue?: Sun exposure and irritation in the white part of the eye (conjunctiva) can increase the risk for the development of pinguecula and pterygium, which are types of scar tissue that can grow over the white part. This scar tissue can be red, yellow, or white. Patients should also be checked for abnormal growths in these areas just like on their normal skin.
