A member asked:

What is the vertical brown line under finger nail?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pigmentation: Vertical nail pigmentation or melonychia can be caused by various growths in the growth plate of the nail called the matrix. These growths can be either benign or malignant. Benign melonychia is relatively common in patients of color e.g. Hispanics and blacks. Melonychia of recent onset or with recent changes is best evaluated by a dermatologist.
