See a pediatrician: If you think your one week old baby is sick, don't give medicine, don't sit on it to see what happens. Go to your pediatrician and get evaluated. This is especially important if there is fever (in which case the evaluation needs to be today...Don't wait). Either your pediatrician will reassure you that it's just nasal congestion, or take further action if needed. Good luck and be well.

Nose breather: Babies are nose breathers and a result get a lot of mucus in their noses. Use a bulb syringe and suck up the mucus, then use saline nose drop to clear the nostrils. Elevate the mattress where sleeping keep a humidifier or vaporizer on. Room temp should between 68-70 degrees.

Cold ?: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages & exposure to dust, fragrences, smoke & other irritants.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose with mucous but this often ends as congestion & produces cough & rattling with breathing. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline & suctioning the remainder. Eliminate irritants from babies environment & this will happen less.
