Variable : Pain after a shoulder replacement tends to diminish over time. Pain often reaches a low and very tolerable level between 1 and 3 months after the surgery. However, some patients never become pain free but have a decreased amount of pain and improved function when compared to before the surgery.

You may be surprised: Shoulder pain can resolve rather quickly following total shoulder replacement surgery. I find that nearly half my patients are off of all narcotic medications by the time their sutures are removed at 10 days.
