Rehabilitation/Rest: In order to perform a partial shoulder replacement, one of the rotator cuff tendons are cut, then reattached. Because of this, the tendon needs time to heal. A period of rest if necessary to protect this healing before starting rehabilitation. A partial replacement lasts considerably longer overall, but has the drawback of residual pain from not replacing the socket side of the joint.

3-6 month recovery: Time. This will be a painful surgery but, assuming you have a good orthopedist, you will most likely have improved range of motion and less pain after recovery. You may experience some nerve damage to smaller nerves in the area, but this normally recovers in the normal rehab time. There are risks and you should speak to your ortho about these. Best of luck!
