Not complicated: For shoulder surgeons, the procedure is very straightforward. It involves moving your muscles to the side, temporarily detaching a rotator cuff muscle, and accessing the shoulder joint. The head (ball part) is the removed and replaced with metal while the glenoid (socket part) is replaced by plastic. The rotator cuff muscle is reattached and the skin closed. It is a highly successful surgery!

Shoulder replacement: Total shoulder replacement is a technically demanding procedure. Results have been shown to be vastly better when performed by a surgeon who performs the procedure on a regular basis. In surveys done by aaos, the avg number of shoulder replacements done per year is 3. Best to see a shoulder surgeon who performs this upwards of 3 per month or more.

See shoulder doc: For patients in your age group, you may not need shoulder replacement. Other options such as shoulder replacement maybe options. Newer procedures such as the cam procedure (comprehensive arthroscopic management) of shoulder arthritis maybe options. See www.Nycsportsmed.Com for more options.

Very: While shoulder replacement is a very exacting surgery, most orthopedists who do them have specialized training and large experience. Results are excellent and long lasting and these patients are among my most satisfied. 90 minute operation under regional without need for general anesthesia. Outpatient or hospital prodcedure. Shoulder arthritis is a big problem with a currently great solution.
