They are both qualified for the administration of anesthesia for colonoscopy. However, anesthesia for patients with medical conditions is best performed by anesthesia doctors.

Not necessary: Most healthy patients do not require the services of an anesthesiologist. The doctor doing the procedure can provide conscious sedation which is adequate in the vast majority of procedures.
