Why should wheat be something i stay away from as a diabetic....my family doc told me it has a glycemic index of a snickers bar. its in everything!?

Not necessary: There is no one food that a diabetic should or should not eat. All foods have their own glycemic indexes and can be worked into a proper diabetic diet. Get a program set up by a registered dietician. This should give you a balanced diet that will probably include some wheat products, but it will be properly set up.

Exaggeration : Wheat is a carbohydrate. It does not need to be avoided altogether, but should be eaten in small portions.
