A member asked:

I had 2 strokes due to endocaeditis and am havin bad beadaches had a mri and the nerologistst prescrbed topamax (topiramate) which isnt helping at all. options?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

May need higher dose: The starting dose for topamax (topiramate) rarely controls headaches. Patients frequently need several dosage increases before seeing a positive effect. The dose should not be increased too rapidly to reduce the incidence of side-effects. Most of my patients see headache control with doses between 50 and 100 mg bid. Give this medication a chance if your dose is below the above, realizing some need higher doses.
