Common: Group b is strep is a normal bacteria in the vagina for three out of ten women. It is not caused by anything in particular and is not harmful to you unless it makes it way into the bladder and cause a urinary tract infection which should be treated. Pregnant women are tested at 35-36 weeks because while the bacteria isn't harmful to mom the baby could get pneumonia and very ill from group b strep.
