It's possible: It's possible to diagnose depression in one thorough appointment and many vague physical ailments can be a sign of depression. Majority of depressions are diagnosed and treated by primary care physicians.

Depends: It would depend what the specifically symptoms are and also what were the findings on the medical evaluation including physical exam and various blood and other tests. The fact that a physician detects depression should be reason enough to followup with a treatment approachfor this problem.
