Need to see images: Need to see images in order to assess disc herniations. Would need to see if there is mass effect on traversing or exiting nerve roots. Facet hypertrophy is an ongoing degenerative process, however with changes of synoivitis, fluid in the facet joints can be symptomatic as well.

Depends on symptoms: The discs in the lower back (lumbar spine) frequently bulge. This can cause some back pain but usually doesn't affect the nerves in a 19 yo. If there is a focal disc "herniation" this can cause problems with the nerves. Facet arthropathy means there is some inflammation and/or degeneration of the joint in the back of the vertebra. Fluid around the joint suggests this may be a source of pain.
