Testicular torsion: Testicular torsion is a developmental abnormality. There is failure of the testicle to attach to the scrotal wall, also it can occur because there is a loose attachment of the epididymis to the testis, bell clapper deformity. Phantom pain can be relieved sometimes by injecting a long acting local anesthetic into the cord or using alcohol injection into cord.

No common cause: Anatomy is important. You can be born with a predisposition to get torsion. Main symptoms are sudden severe testicular pain with nausea and vomiting. If not surgically repaired within a few hours of onset of pain, the testicle can die.
