Depends.: The presence of free pelvic fluid is nonspecific. It could be physiologic or from infection or malignancy. A small amount of fluid is typically physiologic, related to menstrual cycle/ovulation. Your doctor may be able to determine from your symptoms and other ancillary testing to determine if the fluid would be worrisome or not.
