Non specific: Elevated white blood cell count in the range you describe is usually related to infection. Infection can involve throat, ears, lungs, kidneys, bladder, bones, etcusually your physician will culture or examine these areas to see if there is an obvious cause. Other symptoms help localize, the infection six years ago is probably not related. Sometimes occult infection detection requires imaging/tests.

Repeat the test: Many causes for high WBC include smoking, infections, bad teeth, lab error, etc. Repeat the test & consult your dr.
