Nerve: I cannot comment about your surgery but these symptoms are common after surgery and they tend to resolve with time. If the surgery was not in this area you should follow up with a physician as this might be related to pinching of the nerve that provides sensation to the lateral thigh. Tightly fitting clothes are a common cause of this problem.

Meralgia Paresthetic: I am a physical medicine & rehabilitation doctor. This could very well be meralgia paresthetica, which is irritation of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve of the lateral thigh. A local nerve block with an anesthetic could help greatly.
