Symptom Clusters: The diagnosis of PTSD requires four sets of symptom clusters, including intrusion or re-experiencing, avoidance of people, places, and things associated with the trauma, negative alterations in mood or thought, and hyper-arousal. Less commonly, dissociation may occur where feelings of being disconnected from oneself or the sense that that one's surroundings aren't real are experienced.
