Two different cond: Scimitar syndrome is caused by an abnormal blood vessel arising from right lung which shows up as a curved opacity (hence the name) on chest xray. It is a congenital malformation while pneumonia is an acquired condition. Pneumonia is a general term for any lung infection causing fever, cough, shortness of breath & chest xray changes in varying combinations & severity. Can occur in baby with scimit.

Very much so: Scimitar syndrome is a disease that affects the heart and the lung. There are different types some with need for surgery to remove the affected portion of the lung or a catheter procedure to occlude the vessel abnormally supplying the affected lung portion. The extent of anomalous pulmonary venous drainage will dictate whether cardiac surgery is needed. Discuss with your cardiologist.
