Prevention: Get 8 hours sleep each night. Avoid meds/ drugs that can have residual drowsiness effect. Exercise can help stimulate wakefulness. Occasional caffeine may help. Make certain blood sugar isn't too low by eating 4-6 mini-meals a day; avoid high glycemic foods & drinks. See doc if insomnia persists. Sleep apnea may be underlying cause.

Sleep Apnea: You may be suffering from obstructive apnea. If you have any episodes of choking, snoring, or have reflux this could be your problems. Headaches and slightly elevated blood pressure can also be a sign.
