A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unusual causes: The majority of peripheral neuropathies are due to a small number of causes (diabetes, thyroid disease, and vitamin deficiency being among them), and so it is prudent to test for these first. If that panel does not find a cause, a more comprehensive (and expensive!) panel can then be run to look for the more unusual reversible causes.
