Coherence: Ipl stands for intense pulse light- uses light of a specific wavelength but it is not a laser because the light beams do not converge and the wave length is not as narrowly focused. A diode laser is comprised of semiconductors where an active medium is formed by p-n junction emitting a monochromatic and coherent beam.

IPL: Is like a really bright camera flash. It is white light, containing all colors and wavelengths. It spreads out like normal light. Laser light, on the other hand, is just one color - one frequency =- for each laser machine. It doesn't spread out, either. And the waves are all synchronized, or "coherent". But sometimes, they can be used for similar purposes, like hair removal.
