Needs to be seen: Rather than have us try to guess what it is, see your dentist who can tell you for sure. It doesn't sound like anything too serious.

Duration? Symptoms?: Need more information and a photograph to help. Location, duration, symptoms, size and time of onset are important to know. See your dentist for identification. S/he can biopsy it if the lesion is not clinically identifiable.
