Depends: If you mean front and back, it could be a "draw sign" which can occur after an ankle sprain with rupture of some of the ligaments. Side to side motion can result from ligamentous laxity or a problem with the ankle bones (mortise). Either way, have a podiatrist do x-rays and a good biomechanical exam. It may or may not need treatment.
