May be: Between meals snacks. Sugar is the ultimate cause of hypoglycemia. That seems like a paradox but the biochemistry is complex. I suggest (if it applies) that he gets rid of all forms of sugar, ice cream, pop (including diet), candy chocolate etc on trial. It is a cheap approach.

Nutrition: Has hypoglycemia been confirmed in a lab? Symptoms are non-specific and may be associated with other things which can also cause vasovagal reactions. Iron deficiency is most often nutritional in nature and responds well to iron supplementation. His primary doctor should be able to treat it.
