Limit weight gain: When women enter pregnancy overweight or obese, the goal is typically not weight loss but to limit weight gain. You should make sure that you eat a well balanced diet with plenty of calcium, vitamins, and protein, with less in the way of simple carbs. A visit with a dietician may help you plan healthy meals and snacks.

Very cautiously: Only very cautiously and to a very limited extent, so as not to endanger the fetus. Some weight gain is appropriate and healthy during pregnancy. Save the weight loss for after delivery and after breast feeding (if you decide to do so).
