Pure epilepsy, otherwise a spectrum of diseases, is definitely treatable or controllable to the point where seizures may not happen for years. However there are refractory, intractable cases where seizure activity remains frequent and meds need frequent adjustments.

We have over 25 anti-epileptic drugs to choose from, including a cannabinoid preparation. If this is not effective, one could consider a Vagal Nerve Stimulator. In some cases, surgical extirpation of an active focus may be miraculous. Some childhood epilepsies do remit spontaneously by late adolescence.
