What size are colon tumours typically that are causing symptoms, such as narrow stools? can they still be quite small?

Yes: There is a wide variety. Some colon tumors get very large before ever causing any symptoms like narrow stools. On the flip side, very small tumors can start bleeding and become symptomatic very early on. Generally a larger tumor is worse.
