Not very...: Hernia repair mesh of any type is almost impossible to break. It can certainly pull away from the defect it is used to repair, and this results in the real but low rate of recurrence. If the native musculature is closed over the repair mesh, it covers it. But, if the graft is used to fill a defect, the muscle won't grow over the graft. Good luck.

Unlikely: Mesh rarely, if ever, breaks. There was one hernia mesh product that is no longer used that did break. Hernia meshes now are quite stable. They can shrink and occasionallyove or migrate slightly. Mesh is always covered by a layer of the abdominal wall.

Not easy: It is not easy for a hernia mesh to break or get misplaced, but both of those things can happen. There are many factors involved including the technique of hernia repair, patient factors, and the type of mesh used. It's a complex issue, and a bit too much for a brief answer, but i hope this helps.
