It is different.: First trimester screens and the harmony test are for chromosomal abnormalities. The AFP tests for neural tube defects (spina bifida).

The msAFP is: To assess the risk of open neural tube defects i.e. Spina bifida, which is not tested by harmony or the first trimester screen. It is up to you if you would like to be screened for ntds. Keep in mind that, if detected, these defects can be repaired by a skilled pediatric neurosurgeon while the baby is still inside you. Speak to your obgyn and make an informed decision. Hope this helps.
