Therapy: You need to talk to her about her illness, and explain to her that a therapist who specializes in treating eating disorders is a safe person who she can talk to about the things that are troubling her. Hopefully she will be responsive and accept that she needs help. Good luck.

See below: Is she in treatment? If not, helping her obtain an evaluation from a psychiatrist with expertise in eating disorders is critical. After an evaluation, treatment with therapy and/ or medication can begin.

Severe?: "severe" is concerning, especially if you mean anorexia or anorexia bulimia. Someone who drops below 85-90% of their ideal weight is at risk for fatal effects. If this describes your daughter you must seek professional help immediately from a multidisciplinary team skilled in the treatment of anorexia. www.anad.org/ helpline 630-577-1330. Residential treatment may be obligatory.
