Cheilitis: is inflammation of the lips. Most often this is caused by dryness/chapping and sun exposure. Allergies may contribute. Lip licking, biting or rubbing habits are frequently involved. Paradoxically, constant licking of the lips causes drying and irritation. Digestive enzymes present in saliva or even infection (herpes) can contribute.
