How serious is anxiety and do people grow out of it or are they usually left to deal with it for the rest of their lives?

Variable: That is variable. Some people have resolution of symptoms after treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some people control symptoms with non-med options (meditation, yoga, tai chi, exercise etc.) and a third group may have long-term symptoms. Anxiety symptoms can be minor or may be debilitating.

Can be serious: There are many types and degrees of severity of anxiety. Trauma is an anxiety disorder like PTSD. Other fears can manifest as phobias (snakes or spiders). Most fears are manageable and we develop strategies to manage them. If they interfere with your life and prevent you from fully functioning you may benefit from some professional help.
