Possibly: At 43 years old, it is possible that your mole could be something more, if: it has changed in size, shape, color, or sensation. If any of those qualities has changed, seek your doctor's help for referral to a qualified dermatologist now. Early treatment and diagnosis is the key to successful therapy.

Visit your doctor: Not all moles need to have a biopsy. Those that are large, have irregular borders, or have irregular distribution of pigment need a biopsy. Moles that are growing even though they don't have any of those characteristics should also have a biopsy. If you have any questions, visit your doctor to help decide.

ABCD's: Remember your abcd's when thinking of melanoma. Look for moles with asymmetry boarders that are irregular color differences within the same mole diameter greater than 6mm also any new mole or old that starts to itch, bleed or ulcerate should be of concern. Another rule is the ugly duckling rule. Which refers to a mole that looks distantly different from the others on your body.
